In any case the pictures received over seventeen years have been providing astronomers with outstanding images of the universe and the five billion dollars spent on this instrument have been paid back adequately. Another five years on, in the year 2005 (April 25) the Hubble space telescope was sent into orbit and though the first pictures lacked in quality, subsequent changes helped to rectify these errors. The construction of the Hubble space telescope began in the year 1977 and it took a further eight years (1985) before it was ready for use.
